It is a great responsibility on the shoulders of designers to consider sustainability in each project they undertake. E-waste is a problem that creates more problems than we have solutions to.
I'm a box tackles the devastating issue of e-waste by using the packaging of our electronics as an avenue to educate consumers.
The project uses the example of the 27 inch Apple iMac and redesigns the existing packaging that eliminates excessive materials, compares the solution through life cycle analysis, offers a product service system for consumers and electronics companies as well as solutions for the packaging to be re-used, recycled or returned.
(I'm a box was a project undertaken within RMIT's Industrial Design program)
